Kayode is turning 40 years old next week. As many are wont to do at that age, he has been reflecting over his past years and finds that he has every cause to be super grateful to God for how far he has come.

His folks had often said to him, ‘Kay-bobo, you are a blessed man! God has been so good to you!’

You see, by the time Kayode turned 30 years old, he had ticked off many items on his ‘Achievement List.’

He bagged his Bachelor degree at age 20;

Graduated from his Masters programme by 23,

Clinched his PhD by 27,

Got a good paying position with a renowned financial institution outside the country,

Married his beautiful sweetheart by 28 and they had their 2 kids by the time he turned 33.

By age 35, he had payed off the mortgage for his first house and was onto the next one.

He travels around the world frequently and has quite a number of worthy investments back home.

He drives a modern Range Rover and bought a C-class Mercedes Benz car for his wife.

They live in a modern estate in the part of town that many would call posh.

Their kids go to very good schools and are excelling in their academics.

Kayode goes to church regularly and is an active member in his parish. He also gives often to support the ministry.

He takes care of his parents and family back home and supports his friends as he can.

Kay-bobo is living the life many of us desire and hope to have at 40.

Gaskiya, by many standards, we can say that he has done well for himself.

Jesus to God: ‘Father, Kayode has spent 40 years on earth.’

God: ‘Yes Son, I know.’

Jesus: ‘I remember when you knit him to be born to the world, your plan was for him to be a Sheperd to your sheep. The deposits you have put in him was for this purpose.’

God: ‘Yes Son, I know’

Jesus: ‘While he was in the university, we took him through different positions and experiences to prepare him for this responsibility. He was supposed to have started out fully after 30 years on earth but he is still caught up in career pursuit and life quest.’

God: ‘Yes Son, I know’

Jesus: ‘I have been tugging at his heart, seeking to re-direct him to your original plan but he is not listening to me. I care about him too much to allow him to spend even one more year out of your agenda for his life.’

God: ‘That’s right, my beloved Son.’

Jesus: ‘I believe we might need to prune him and remove those distractions that keep his heart and focus divided. He might be more attentive and co-operative then.’

God: ‘Go ahead and do what you must Son, that none of ours remain unfruitful.’

Jesus: ‘I love him so much and I don’t want him to be replaced and put aside in your eternal plan.

God: ‘I know you do, I do too.’

Jesus: ‘I know what to do to get his attention, I will that he listens when I call to him this time.’

Folks, you and I have genuine desires and aspirations for our lives. It is quite noble and ain’t nothing wrong with pursuing our personal goals and dreams.

However, we did not create ourselves. The creator had a plan and purpose for our lives; He pre-destined your life even before time began.

You were created BECAUSE of His purpose. Think about that.

What would we have gained if we lived life on our own terms as against the plan of the creator? Would we say we lived a successful life? Who is measuring and by what standard?

I have soon realized that Human Metrics are often very different from God’s Metrics. What people consider important is not often what God counts as worthy.

Has God been tugging at your heart on something(s) He wants you to do? He sure has been with me!

Have you bothered to ask Him what particularly He ordained you to do on earth? Or do you believe you are doing enough and there is not more to do?

One thing is sure; for as many that desire to do His will, He will lead you into it.

Living in His plan for your life can be as simple as waking up everyday and doing whatever He asks you to do.

The most important thing is; do you recognize that your life is only as successful as God says it is?
